Guitar in Real Time (GReaT) teaches musical knowledge, skills, awareness, and music creation through guitar. The method is intended for instructor led classes providing a broad learning experience including music reading and theory but not limited to a particular musical genre. Although intended for young children, older children and adults looking for a broad approach to learning guitar can also benefit. With its checklist of skills and knowledge, GReaT can be considered as a skeleton curriculum that can be fleshed out with other music pieces as each teacher feels appropriate. Backing tracks and videos for music pieces and examples are also available. Level 2 introduces major and minor key signatures with two sharps and one flat. Keys are learned in the Scales section and used in the music pieces. A diatonic scale of harmonized thirds is introduced and applied in several music pieces. A movable scale form is also introduced that's applied in pieces with three-note and four-note sequences. Movable pentatonic and blues scales are learned. Students also learn to create their own blues melodies using these scales as well as create a melody for their own 16 bar chord progression.
