Publisher's Synopsis

This is a story that appeals to teenagers. It's a "coming of age" description about Sam's turning to faith and belief through the miracle of a guitar. Sam Owens, a beginning junior in high school, is dropped off by his mother to live with his grandparents in Lake Leon, W. Virginia. This is the story of a shy teenager who has to make new friends and adjust to his new living environment. He secures a unique part time job, tuning and delivering custom made Pike Gilpin guitars. In the same week, he secures another job working Saturdays at the Lake Leon Waffle House. Sam meets Adam and Tony in the school cafeteria. Three girls make an effort to have the three boys go with them to the basketball game Friday on the Spirit Bus. Sam is apprehensive because has never been on a date with a girl. The six teenagers start attending all the school activities together. More and more, Sam and Becky get to know each other. All six teenagers attend a "Hootenanny" country performing group. At Becky's suggestion, the six teenagers decide to form a musical group of their own. Problem: Sam is chosen to play the guitar, but he doesn't play the guitar, nor does he have a guitar. Becky and the group invite Sam to church. Sam has never attended church, and he doesn't know what it means to pray. Through a series of events, Sam miraculously secures a Pike Gilpin guitar with a gouge across the back. Through participation, Sam begins quickly learning how to play his guitar. Sam and Becky begin to develop a romantic relationship. All six teens go everywhere together. Sam doesn't know how to handle girlfriend situations. He begins learning first hand. Sam even has to learn how to dance. Becky is the Christian leader. She has to deal with Sam's unbelief. They call their musical group, "Inspiration."
