Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Guide to the Pergamon Museum: Translated for the Board of Directors of the Royal Museums of Berlin

Pergamon is situated in Asia Minor about 18 miles inland from the west coast. It lies opposite the Island of Lesbos, almost half way between Smyrna on the south, and Troy on the north. The citadel at Troy where Schliemann made his excavations, called also in the legend Pergamon, the burg or citadel, must not be con fused with this Pergamon which was the capital of the Attalid dynasty from the middle of the third century until 133 before Christ.
