Tropical fruits of the Meliaceae family include lanzones, formally known as Lansium domesticum. The Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia are some of the most avid fans of this Southeast Asian original dish. This fruit goes by more than just langsat; it's also called longkong, duku, and buah luku.
Lanzones are little, spherical fruits that are usually around the size of a little plum. The thin, light-brown skin is simple to peel off, exposing the white or translucent segments inside that are delicious. The flesh has a distinct flavor that can vary slightly among types, although it's often sweet and tart. The fruit is versatile and may be enjoyed both raw and cooked; it is a common addition to salads, jams, and desserts.
Evergreen lanzones trees can grow to a height of 30 meters. The fruit is cultivated in areas with warm and humid climates, such as the tropics and subtropics. Depending on the species and the growth conditions, the trees usually provide fruit clusters that are harvested once or twice a year.
