Publisher's Synopsis

Collection of films starring the legendary British actor, John Mills. 'Flame in the Streets' (1961) sees Mills star as Jacko Palmer, a union man who is forced to confront the prejudices of his members when a black foreman (Earl Cameron) is appointed. However, when he discovers that his daughter (Sylvia Sims) wants to marry Jamaican schoolteacher Peter Lincoln (Johnny Sekka), Jacko may have to confront prejudices closer to home. 'The Rocking Horse Winner' (1949), based on a short story by D.H. Lawrence, follows the unlikely friendship of a boy from an upper class family approaching bankruptcy, Paul (John Howard Davies), and handyman Bassett (Mills), who appears able to magically predict the winner of horse races by riding his rocking horse. The money is soon rolling in, but will Paul realise eventually that nothing in life is free? 'Tiara Tahiti' (1962) follows the long-running enmity between Clifford Southey (Mills) and Brett Aimsley (James Mason). The two are initially part of the same investment brokerage, with Southey a clerk and Aimsley a partner. The roles are reversed in the war, when Southey is appointed Aimsley's superior officer and promptly dismisses him. In an unfortunate twist, the pair of them then run into each other in Tahiti, Aimsley's place of exile, where Southey has come to build a holiday resort. Finally, 'The Singer Not the Song' (1961) stars Mills as Father Michael Keogh, a determined and well-intentioned Catholic priest who arrives in a Mexican village and quickly finds himself at loggerheads with a gang of murderous bandits led by Anacleto (Dirk Bogarde). The rivalry between the priest and the bandit leader intensifies, fuelled by their attraction to beautiful local girl Locha (Mylene Demongeot).
