Publisher's Synopsis
The full name of the author of this Gospel is John Mark, and the Scriptures refer to him nine times. In chronological sequence the references are Acts 12.12, 25, 13.5, 13, 15.37, 1 Peter 5.13, Colossians 4.10, Philemon 24, 2 Timothy 4.11. Furthermore, "a certain young man" in Mark 14:51, 52 could have been Mark himself.
So we have a brief summary of his life and ministry in favor of Paul, Peter and Barnabas. His weakening gives us a balanced story of this servant of the Lord who was entrusted with the holy task of writing one of the Gospels. It is generally accepted that, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter was the greatest source of information for Mark, and there are many details in the Gospel that confirm this.
Mark, as a servant to those who were called to outstanding service with and by their Lord, was chosen by the Holy Spirit to portray his character as the Servant. He did it in a simple, powerful and direct way. His sentences are small portraits. This Gospel is full of activity. For example, in the pictures of chapter 1 the Lord is found in the waters of the Jordan, in the desert, by the sea, in the synagogue, in a house, in a lonely place and in the towns of Galilee.
