Publisher's Synopsis
Generativity, defined as (the penchant for) giving back, is regarded as a universal life stage first occurring some time in middle age. Generativity among older female prison inmates has received little attention. Through in-depth interviews with female prisoners, the inclination toward and practice of generativity among older female inmates emerges. The findings suggest that older women experience incarceration in unique ways, with generativity at the centre of daily life. Participants reported engaging in generative behaviours in prison and expressed desires to continue to be generative upon their release. The book is a first that stresses the resilience of aging female inmates.
