Publisher's Synopsis
Cecil Lewis directs this musical inspired by Prosper Mérimée's novel 'Carmen' and the subsequent opera version of the story scored by Bizet. With Sir Malcolm Sargent acting as musical director, the film sets out to tell the story of Carmen (Marguerite Namara), a captivating gypsy girl who works in a cigarette factory. Having caught the eye of both the romantic Don José (Thomas F. Burke) and the daring Escamillo (Lance Fairfax), Carmen finds herself at the sharp end of a love triangle that seems fated to end in tragedy for all concerned.
