Publisher's Synopsis
Discover the amazing life of Giotto di Bondone...
Giotto, who was born in the latter part of the thirteenth century, is regarded as the first painter to break free of the restrictions imposed on art throughout the Middle Ages and to resurrect the natural art of Ancient Greece. Giotto painted characters that had distinct personalities and feelings, in contrast to the practice of the Middle Ages, which involved the creation of expressionless, two-dimensional figures. Giotto spent his entire life painting great frescos for cathedrals and chapels, as the Church at the time commissioned nearly all of the artwork that was created during that era. He went on to become the most famous painter of his era and was instrumental in paving the way for the beautiful Renaissance that was to follow.
