This work covers twelve essays, written by German scholars from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and Australia on famous and lesser-known figures and works of the early 20th century in Germany. The text examines Lou Andreas-Salome, Erna Bernstein, Hedwig Lachmann, Lily Braun, Jo Mihaly, Adrienne Thomas, Emmy Henning, Berta Lask, Frida Bettingen, Bess Brenck-Kalischer, Anna Seghers, and Gertrud von le Fort. The volume includes portraits of the writers and will be complemented by a two-volume anthology of texts in German with bio-bibliographical materials also to be edited by Brian Keith-Smith.
