Publisher's Synopsis

Collected box set of three documentaries about legendary naturalist and author Gerald Durrell, who died in 1995, and the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust which he founded. David Attenborough introduces an overview of Durrell's life in 'Himself and Other Animals', with contributions from John Cleese. In 'To the Island of the Aye-Aye' Durrell takes a film crew to Madagascar to capture one of the endangered creatures so he can establish a breeding programme to ensure its survival. In 'Jambo the Gentle Giant' John Nettles narrates the story of Jambo the gorilla, a resident at Jersey Zoo, which was founded by Durrell. In the late 1980s Jambo made headlines after a young boy fell into his enclosure; Jambo protected the injured child from other gorillas and cared for him until he could be recovered.
