Publisher's Synopsis
Based on the assumption that gender roles have become increasingly complex and differentiated in recent decades, the volume's articles analyze the construction of gender in contemporary media products. The authors provide insights into the diverse media and genre-specific implementations of the construction, perpetuation and questioning of gender concepts in audiovisual media. In doing so, they look at the interplay of the different levels in which "gendering" is located in these media and, following a central approach of the volume, take a trans-media perspective. The book is intended to include in-depth analyzes of popular examples from TV series, films and music videos sharpen the readers' view of how audiovisual media on the one hand influence the image of "femininity" and "masculinity" and on the other hand reproduce socially anchored gender norms.
