Publisher's Synopsis
Finally this reference book is complete. Publication of volume 6 of the 8th Edition of Geigy Scientific Tables concludes several years' careful detailed work by teams of in-house and "outside" scholars charged by Ciba-Geigy with bringing up to date these compendia of scientific data. The editorial team has been disbanded; there will never be such a work again.;The vast increase in the amount of material to be included has meant that the Geigy Scientific Tables have had to be steadily extended, with the result that they are too voluminous to be published in a single book. Dividing the work into six volumes has made it possible to incorporate additional chapters and has also helped to ensure that all the data are more complete and up to date than they could have been in a single volume.;While the product of a drug house, the tables have no more than a bias towards data of use to those wanting information about the human condition. There is, for example, a definition of the speed of light in "Units of Measurement" (volume 1), a model of brevity and clarity; the second volume gives statistical tables which are of as much use in bringing quantitative rigour to the presentation of animal data or voting patterns in Nepal as to double blind-clinical trials.
