Publisher's Synopsis

From 1855 to 1966 nearly 8,000 railroad locomotives were built at Gorton Foundry, near Manchester, England, by Beyer, Peacock & Co Ltd. Some of these steam locomotives were the famous elongated Garratts which have fascinated railfans for years. This reprinted catalogue features a four-colour cover, and shows Garrett locomotives that were delivered to the Argentine North-Eastern Railway, Burma Railways, Benguella Railway, Indian State Railway, London & North-Eastern Railway, Mauritius Government Railways, Rhodesia Railways, South African Railways and the Victorian Government Railways, along others. The Garrett locomotive allowed railroads to increase tonnage and reduced operating time between stations and the number of trains run on a line. In the 1925 catalogue, the Garratts shown had tractive effort capabilities of between 7,950 pounds and 69,150 pounds at 75% boiler pressure.
