More than sixty years have passed since the English writer George Orwell wrote his famous "Animal Farm", an allegorical novel in which, through the qualities and defects of the animals that live on a farm, the qualities and defects of the men of the wider world beyond are highlighted. This celebratory volume offers the reader an "Animal Farm" seen through the eyes of a number of famous photographers. They don't have allegorical aims but, instead, they illustrate, through the strength of their pictures, both the best known and the less evident characteristics of the animals commonly found on farms: they are presented in close-up and detailed images that catch their most amusing expressions and glances and reveal the most unexpected poses of horses and cows, sheep, goats and pigs, hens and geese, and dogs and cats. Customized lighting and special lenses used in the camera-work separate individual animals from the context and skillfully highlight the unique beauty of their profiles, posture, and coats - as if they were photographed in a studio.
