Publisher's Synopsis

I had time on my hands. The huge mirrors in the café reflected brown walls, the students lost in their reading. A screen was trying to detail the facets of the reality.

I sometimes came back from an old building. The dancers changed even in the corridors, to the rhythm of Afro-Cuban music, experimental or hip-hop... The elevator, on this floor, carried extroverted characters, dressed and styled as in New York, artists, delivery people, musical instruments, flowers, groups participating in relaxation sessions or joining a club, people who had nothing to do there, walkers and customers of the café downstairs who were looking for the toilet, tourists with their children, enough people to express themselves or party...

One summer, we spent a month and a half in an apartment with a sea view... We barely slept, drunk with almost endless sandy beaches, the music of gypsies and stranded tree trunks, reeds, roads that bordered the wind-stirred water, near ponds...

That year seems to me so distant and yet so present...

With its attractions and rides, Funfair (I to VII) is an experimental and multidimensional narrative, at the same time cyclical Ferris Wheel and kaleidoscopic crossing of eras.

Frédéric Delalot has published a dozen novels and short stories. He is also the author of poems.
