Publisher's Synopsis

Logistics can be considered the magic behind the curtain that ensures the accomplishment of strategic, operational, and tactical objectives. This magic is not an illusion, but is grounded in education and training. Despite the top-level success of recent operations, the Government Accounting Office on logistics effectiveness during OIF states Military personnel were not adequately trained in various logistics functions, such asoperating theater logistics centers. Further review demonstrates that Air Force (AF) Logistics Readiness Officers (LRO) are unprepared to serve at the operational level of war and the AF's education and training program should be overhauled to meet the needs of the CCDR and AFFOR staff. The AF logistician is a combination of three separate career fields (Transportation, Supply, and Logistics Plans) that were meant to serve as logistics generalists, able to move seamlessly between the core logistics functions of supply, transportation, and logistics planning. Separately, each of these functions has complex and unique education and training requirements.
