Dear Reader:
I was born and raised in the heart of uptown New Orleans, from the 3rd ward to the 13th and the Magnolia project. I am the third of five children and a high school graduate of Rabouin Career Magnet High School in 1998. I went on to become a hair stylist, a wife, and a mother of three. As a child I remember watching my mom working her fingers to the bone, struggling to make ends meet. Like so many I come from a "broken home" and was molested by a close family friend. I started writing poetry when I was fourteen. The very first poem I penned was entitled "ALONE." I can still remember sitting in my living room crying as I expressed my feelings on paper. Writing became my way of dealing with all the chaos and depression in my life. Poetry is my way of expressing me without having to say a word to anyone. I have decided to give you a glimpse inside my heart. To help give a voice to those who are afraid to speak out, or have a hard time expressing their feelings, but can see themselves through my eyes. I know there's something I have experienced on life's journey that someone, somewhere can relate to. So, no matter who you are or what you're going through remember: you are not alone.
