Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Friendly Faces: Of Three Nationalities
Some of these sketches have appeared in Eng lish and American periodicals, others are now published for the first time. I make no apology for the introduction of one living personage into a little portrait gallery devoted to figures mostly long passed away. The founder of the Salvation Army may be said to have belonged to history for already a quarter of a century.
My best thanks are due to R. D. Cooper, Esq., of Needham Market, for kindly permitting a photograph of the cartoon in the apple-chamber, also to Mr. A. White, photographic artist, Ipswich, for his admirable reproduction of the same. The Suffolk Views were taken for me by his late father a few years ago. The portrait of W. J. Fox was presented to me (1868 - 70) by his daughter, the late Mrs. G. Fox.
