After the construction of matter and qualities in the Ideas, in Von der Weltseele (On the World Soul) Schelling dealt with the second major and traditional problem of Kant, organic nature. As in the Ideas, the constant reference to contemporary science is typical of the text. The edition provides the text of the 1st edition with the versions of the 2nd (1806) und 3rd (1809) edition and the Sammtlichen Werke (Complete Works). For the first time, Schelling's handwritten notes on corrections for the 2nd edition, part of his literary remains, have been published. Detailed editorial reports, annotations, indexes and a bibliography make the text accessible. Nach der Konstruktion der Materie und der Qualitaten in den Ideen widmet Schelling sich in Von der Weltseele dem zweiten grossen, von Kant uberkommenen Problem der organischen Natur. Wie in den Ideen ist die bestandige Bezugnahme auf die zeitgenossische Wissenschaft charakteristisch fur den Text. Die Edition gibt den Text der 1. Auflage mit den Varianten der 2. (1806) und 3. (1809) Auflage und der Sammtlichen Werke wieder; erstmals werden Schellings handschriftliche Korrekturvermerke fur die 2. Auflage aus dem Nachlass ediert. Umfangreiche editorische Berichte, Anmerkungen, Register und eine Bibliographie erschliessen den Text.
