It is certain also that the efflorescence Of Northern French lyric dates from a time when the once rigid separation Of Francs de France from Provencals and Gascons (limousins as the more general term of that day had it) had ceased. But the new French lyric did not directly follow the Provencal forms, and it elaborated for itself forms Of which the Provencals had not thought.
