Of Mr. Van der Kemp's papers but few re main. All documents relating to his public work in Holland were sent by him from Kings ton to his friend jan jacob Cau, about 1790, and cannot now be traced. Letters from his correspondents in Europe and America during his life in the New World, with the exception of some from jefi'erson and Clinton1 and more than a hundred from john Adams2 were for the most part returned or destroyed.
