Publisher's Synopsis
The book tells about the political and human events of Francesco Guercio, a Sicilian orange grove farmer who was Mayor of Carlentini for almost fourteen consecutive years. It describes the man in his public role and in his personal life, between his dedication to the cultivation of the land and his political passion directed towards a community in need of services and above all of active listening. Always a communist, he never denied those ideals, considering them an instrument for the emancipation of the subordinate classes, especially in Sicily, where the largely "feudal" social system resisted until a few decades ago.
