Publisher's Synopsis

This work is devoted to the application of the concepts of failure mechanics in investigating the deformation and strength of engineering structures and rock bases. An analytical model of solid body with internal defect (crack) has been proposed. It has been found to be the best suited to describe the process of deformation and failure of building materials, including concrete and rock in particular. This model can be employed to develop methods of analyzing stress-strain state and strength of building structures and their interaction with rock bases. The work contains examples to illustrate the application of the developed method for solving a range of practical problems and is designed to be of use to a wide range of specialists working in various disciplines of civil engineering.
