Publisher's Synopsis
Forgotten Badges, is a refreshing adventure. America has waited patiently for a modern, yet heroic, quest of outdoor adventure. There is a thirst for old-school youth, who reside in this modern world. Youth, who given the choice between, right versus wrong, good versus evil, and are willing at all costs, to defend their beliefs. You won't read about magic or flying brooms. What you will read about, is guts-good ole fashion, guts. Life had been grand for thirteen-year-old Joshua and eleven-year-old Nicholas McKenzie. The two brothers had it all. They lived in the country; fished, hunted, explored the woods, and rode their Honda 50 cc motorcycles until they ran out of gas. It's all they knew. They were destined to become game wardens and follow in their dad's footsteps. Then, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, their innocence was shattered; their souls crushed. The curator of Hell had been patiently waiting, and it was the Devil's turn to play. Their parents taken from them in a drunk driving accident, Josh and Nick are left to defend the only two things that mattered; their passion for adventure and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Copper. The two boys loaded an old Suburban and trailer with their worldly possessions and drove north to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. They would paddle as voyageurs, camp, fish and search for moments of sanity. A day behind, and hot on their trial, Wilderness Officer Gary Flynn slides his canoe into Moose Lake to give chase. Straddling the border between the United States and Canada, Josh and his younger brother Nick give the thirty-year veteran more than he can handle. It wasn't supposed to be this way-catching the runaways, bringing them back, it was a trivial task; nearly embarrassing for the officer. These boys were different however. Bit by bit, they would break the officer like a wild stallion. They would change an unchangeable cop. When the reader turns the final page and closes the book, they are left with a soft heart, a heart that longs for the type of friendships found in Forgotten Badges. The reader will have a look around and wonder-do I have friends like that?
