Publisher's Synopsis
Sugar, spice, and a whole lot of nice. Precious words you'll want to read more than twice. That's what you'll find in this sweet, funny, and insightful big book of thank yous for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Hundreds of Concord Elementary School students in Prince George's County, MD poured their hearts and souls into expressing how much they appreciate President Obama and Mrs. Obama for their service to our country. PreK through first grade contributed to one class letter. Students in second grade and up wrote individual letters, where they introduced themselves, thanked the president and First Lady for programs, such as Obamacare, college funding, and the Let's Move campaign, and for the First Couple's speeches and TV show appearances. The letter-and-card-writing began in October 2016 as part of the National Writing Day celebration sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Author and Literacy Trainer Caroline Brewer, Concord's former Reading Resource Teacher, organized the writing celebration and the book project, serving as editor. Sixth Grade Language Arts Teacher Alicia Lazaris helped coordinate planning and fundraising for the book. Adjoa Burrowes, Author, Educator, and Artist, designed the book, laid it out, and also co-edited. Every purchase helps pay the costs of producing the book and of providing free copies for students. Each book will inspire a child to higher reading heights. Thank you for your support!
