It's 2009 in Reading. Five men, each in their forties, meet monthly in each other's houses to play poker. Doug shows off his new-minted wealth, Simon insists on serving only red wine and goats' cheese, and Nick tries, desperately, to end his losing streak. While Vijay records every game on his spreadsheet, Alan frets about his inability to get his wife pregnant, and Nick becomes obsessed with the idea of engineering Doug's downfall. Aiming to triumph over his nemesis in poker as well as in life, he comes into troubling proximity to Sophia, Doug's clever and beautiful wife.
