Publisher's Synopsis
This Research Note contains papers presented in a series of seminars held at the Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo "M. Picone" of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), during the special year devoted to "Fluid Dynamical Aspects of Combustion Theory".;The main goal was to provide a systematic presentation of the state of combustion science in order to encourage university and industrial researchers in mathematics and engineering to enter the field, and to introduce them to suitable theoretical instruments. To this end, six lecture series were organized, each a week long, given by researchers in combustion who were asked to provide the audience with fundamentals of combustion theory, their recent contributions, and motivations for future research.;The result is an introduction to combustion theory that may be suitable for graduate courses in applied mathematics, chemistry and mechanical, aerospace or chemical engineering. Moreover, it can provide a basis for field researchers interested in entering the combustion field.;This book will be of use to researchers interested in entering the field of combustion and to those interested in fluid dynamics, turbulence nonlinear diffusion and the propagation of fronts.
