Publisher's Synopsis

Some of the slave narratives found in the Florida Slave Narratives were collected by African American employees of the Works Progress Administration's (WPA) Florida Federal Writers' Project. Some historians believe that these narratives that had a black interviewer give a unique insight to the lives of slaves as the slave interviewees may have felt more comfortable disclosing information to a interviewers of the same race.
