Finn MacCool is not happy. His dad has been missing since he was a baby and he has grown too tall to be on the basketball team anymore. So when his mum wins a lottery prize and organizes a trip to her native Ireland, Finn isn't too pleased. All he can think about is what could go wrong. In the little village of Kilclooney, County Donegal, Finn is curious when his giant of a great-grandfather gives him a wrinkly old bag full of Celtic relics and tells him they are his to use to fulfill his destiny. When Great-grandfather takes him to the site of an ancient stone dolmen and begins to chant some sort of spell, Finn decides the old guy is crazy. A storm seems to whip up around him and when it dies down again, Great-grandfather is nowhere to be seen, and Finn finds he has been transported to The Otherworld, the famed Celtic land of myth. An ancient Druid bard named Finegas informs Finn that he is on a quest. He must undergo many trials before he can save his father who has been trapped in the Otherworld, a prisoner of the mighty Dagda. Guided by Little Nut, a walnut-faced dwarf, and protected by Bran, a giant wolf-hound, Finn reluctantly sets off on his journey along the Third Road. Along the way, he vanquishes a giant, outsmarts a demon and rescues a maiden in distress. He travels to other mythical realms, and battles the dreaded Formorians, with some help from the Fianna, his band of brave warriors. Finn faces many challenges and makes some interesting discoveries about his family and himself before he can complete his quest. But in the end, he has just one shot at saving his father and fulfilling his destiny. And this is one shot he can't afford to miss.
