It is with much hesitation I decided to write Here Lies Billy the Kid. Unlike my other "Kid book," this short history is frankly revealed. While Blackwater Draw focused on a few Regulators, Here Lies Billy the Kid aims directly at the Kid's final resting place and its connection to one Regulator. The sensitivity is obvious. In the recent past, discussion of these events lacked the necessary historical objectivity. Through this study, some hard truths are brought to light, and some long unanswered questions are settled. Without a dual investigative study of the Bowdre family alongside that of the Telfer hearing, this would have been impossible to complete.
