Publisher's Synopsis

A title in the Library of Veterinary Practice series, this book was written mainly with a view to describing the diagnostic procedures and treatment techniques commonly used in the routine management of brood mares and the reasons for their application; attention is drawn to those areas where knowledge is scant, and where popular belief appears to be misinformed. Whilst recommending what is considered to be ideal, the author has also tried to comment on what may be practical, given that the cost of veterinary help can be prohibitive for some mare owners and inconsequential for others. The book has been written primarily with veterinary undergraduates in mind, but it also contains information of interest to veterinary surgeons in practice. Additionally, both mare and stallion owners may find the answers to some of the vexing problems they encounter when breeding their horses. They may also appreciate the complexity of the reproductive process in the horse and be more tolerant with mares which fail to produce a foal and with the people who have participated in this lack of success.
