Publisher's Synopsis

Feeling called love is the third of John Kruse's novels to be are set during and draw upon his youth in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The story examines the implications and ramifications of two events in the life of a fifteen year old schoolboy. In 1975 he starts a holiday romance with Shona, a girl his age from Dunfermline. What might have been a week's innocent passion lasts and develops, becoming deeper and more complicated. Conflicting with John's feelings for Shona is the relationship he finds himself embroiled in with his French teacher. Both entanglements start to spiral out of control, dragging them increasingly into irrational and desperate acts. This account of obsession and infatuation is set against the background of mid-seventies culture and current affairs. The emergence of punk rock, the influence of TV shows, clothes, politics and technology are all mixed into the stew of teenage emotions and sex.
