This is a collection of stories about fat, fabulous women. No two of them are alike yet they have to overcome the same stereotypes and prejudices as other large and lovely ladies. Fat bashing is the only socially acceptable form of bigotry left in the United States. Say something like "Asians are all....," "Blacks are all...," or even "Women are all..." and you can get in big trouble, you might even lose your public reputation or your job. But make that "Fat women are all..." and you'll get laughs. Oh the bitter irony. Americans are getting fatter every day, have been for decades, yet each year we become more obsessed with thinness and ever more fat-phobic. We still believe that a slim waistline makes you a better person, despite abundant evidence to the contrary. But some people, especially some women, are beginning to realize that a dress size in single figures doesn't make you anything different than what you always were, you're the same person-good bad or indifferent-no matter how much, or how little, you weigh. Now is the time to stop worrying about potbellies and muffin tops and live life to the fullest. You don't have to put life on hold until you lose X pounds, or can fit into your old high school cheerleader outfit. That's what unites the characters in these stories. They live and love and laugh and lust....and eat, well and heartily. They indulge in all the guilty pleasures of life but they don't feel guilty, or ashamed. They don't try to hide their fat. They celebrate it, and they find others, both men and women-some thin, some not-who are happy to join them in that celebration. And they don't tell fat jokes. The fat bashers are the butt of their jokes.
