Excerpt from Fasti Academiae Mariscallanae Aberdonensis, Vol. 3: Selections From the Records of the Marischal College and University, 1593-1860; Index to Volume II
This is not an antiquary's index. Disused and abnormal orthographical forms of place names, although preserved in the Records, are here ignored altogether, and modern usage is alone represented. Old forms of personal surnames are inserted only for cross reference, and the less usual modern forms are merged in what has appeared to the compiler to be the more popular orthography. Except in one or two instances, where the mean ing was Obscure, the designations of parents are translated into English. Italics are employed to indicate Offices and preferment in the University.
