On leaving school at 14, Alex Rennie started work as a second horseman at Nethermill Farm in Birness, Aberdeenshire, during the Depression years of the early 1930s. Studying in the evenings after a hard day in the fields paid rewards when he joined the Durham County Constabulary in 1937. This is his story.
