He graduated from Cambridge with honours in Mathematics in 1881, and went on to be a schoolmaster in Oxford Military College, and also at Clifton College, Bristol. He is the author of more than thirty novels, and short stories, some of which were adapted to film, and for the theatre.He died of cancer in 1930 at the age of 67
