Publisher's Synopsis
This book is the outcome of several years? work with, and study of, families caring for a child with cystic fibrosis (CF). Four case studies provide a vivid portrayal of the efforts of parents to come to terms with the diagnosis and its implications, and traces the crisis points which arise during the 'long haul'. The impact on family dynamics, the marital bond and the experience of the siblings is sensitively explored. The families? coping patterns and support networks are analysed, with a specific focus on the nursing contribution to care. - - The research, drawn from practice, raises issues about the relational element of nursing and illuminates the meaning of 'support'. Implications for practice, education and management are discussed and the case for the development of a concept of family nursing to meet contemporary health needs is argued.
