A Karger 'Publishing Highlights 1890-2015' title Spiegel's treatise on experimental neurology is amongst the titles marking the beginning of a development that will culminate in the formation of a very challenging and technically quickly advancing subspecialty of neurosurgery, with the journal Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (1989), which Spiegel himself founded in 1938 as 'Confinia Neurologica', at its center at Karger neurosurgery.
