Publisher's Synopsis
Made-for-TV drama based on the real life court-martial and execution of US soldier Eddie Slovik for desertion during WWII. Martin Sheen takes on the role of Slovik, a man clearly ill-suited for combat due to his fear of guns and inability to pass basic soldiering tests without his superior officers rigging the drills. Forced into a position he finds utterly untenable, Slovik sees little option other than to desert. Though by no means the only US deserter during the war - there were over 20,000 in total - a range of political struggles beyond his control and the career plans of the officers in charge of his trial make it increasingly apparent that Slovik will pay the ultimate price. Ned Beatty also stars as the chaplain appointed to comfort the condemned man in his final hours.
