Publisher's Synopsis

Who were the Craigs of Northampton County, Pennsylvania? "This study was initially made in an effort to discover the relationship, if any, between certain Revolutionary War officers named Craig who are listed in Heitman's Historical Register of Officers of the Continental Army. One of these officers was Samuel Craig, an ancestor of the writer's client, Craig Colgate, Jr., of Washington, D.C., who made a grant to the National Genealogical Society for research on the problem and publication of the results. An intensive search has been made by Mr. Colgate, Joseph L. Graham of Philadelphia, a professional researcher, genealogist Charles R. Barker of Lansdowne, Pa., and the contributor. These researches were conducted in The National Archives in Washington, D.C., the manuscript and microfilm collections of the Genealogical and Historical Societies of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, the Northampton County Courthouse and the Northampton County Archives Building, Easton, Pa., the Division of Archives and Manuscripts, Bureau of Archives and History, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Harrisburg, Pa., and in numerous other places from Albany to Richmond." Thomas Craig Esq. of Allen Township, William Craig (sheriff of Northampton County), General Thomas Craig, Hugh Craig, Captain Charles Craig, Captain William Craig, Daniel Craig of Warrington Township (Bucks County, Pa.), Colonel Thomas Craig, Captain John Craig, and Lieutenant Robert Craig are covered. Four pedigrees, a bibliography, and an index to full-names, places and subjects add to the value of this work.
