Publisher's Synopsis
This research investigates the impact of the Genetically Modified Organisms (Contained Use) Regulations 1992 on the centres undertaking GM work with Great Britain. It assessed the costs, benefits and burdens imposed by these regulations and considered the aptness of the regulatory controls. Notifiers must complete four tasks to enable GM work to be undertaken: classifying the organism; categorizing the work; undertaking a risk assessment; and completing appropriate HSE forms. The element which was found to cause most difficulty to notifiers was completing suitable and sufficient risk assessments.
