Publisher's Synopsis
In an alternate 1932 the British Prime Minister, Ramsey MacDonald, honours his promise to the British Eugenics Society in recognition of their support that led him to win the General Election. He creates the Ministry of Social Biology (MoSB) to enact Eugenic policies to perfect the British race. The newly appointed minister, Brinley Valentine Husher, begins realising the Eugenic dream at his Spring Bank facility in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Here the MoSb take into their care the feeble-minded, the dissolute of spirit, the deformed of body, all those who do not meet the Eugenic template of perfection. For Grace Fielding and Thomas Morrow, the reality of Spring Bank and the MoSB is enforced euthanasia. They are young and newly arrived but the facility is already turning into a nightmare. If the attention of the vicious Red Bands does not kill them the dysgenic policies of the MoSB surely will. There is, however, a secret war being fought. It is being waged between the Verdure, a shadowy cabal of wealth and power, and the Indivisibles, a disparate group of people opposed to Eugenics. Grace, Tom, and their friends become pawns in this struggle, racing by car, by train, and by aeroplane to keep one step ahead of the MoSB Purifiers who pursue them. For Tom and the others, it is a fight for life but for Grace, it is a mystery, one she must investigate if she is to know who she really is and why Helene Monroe, the beautiful public face of the MoSB, wants her dead. The R102 airship flies from Britain to America, to Germany, and back to Britain again as it hosts an International Conference on Eugenics. Below it, Doc Hunter, the superman of Eugenics, enters the fight against the Indivisibles. At Spring Bank the horror of human medical experimentation gives rise to Titan Soldiers. Grace, born with only one hand and one leg, alone in the world since the day she was born, must pit herself against a government ministry and the agents of the Verdure. Her only ally is a blind boy, her one true friend, and her indomitable spirit.Eugenica is a thrilling, fast-paced, adventure through a nightmare that very nearly happened.
