Boudin was a marine painter, and expert in the rendering all that pertained to the sea and its shorelines.

Boudin was the son of a harbor pilot, and spent his early life by the seaports. The family eventually moved inland setting up storefronts. Eugene selling frames, and once again became acquainted with painters of the area and their maritime works. At 22, encouraged by established these same established painters, Boudin started to paint full time in Paris, but eventually finding himself in Brittany, Flanders and Normandy.
