Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Essays on Hysterectomy

The officers responsible for the Surgical Section of the British Medical Association, which met at Oxford, July, 1904, invited me to open a discussion on the Indications for Hysterectomy. The fact that the operative treatment of an organ usually neglected by the general surgeon should be accorded a prominent position in the Surgical Section is an epoch-making event, and a very significant sign of the times. It was impossible in the time allowed for opening the discussion to give details in support of my opinions, so I take the Opportunity of reprinting the opening address and collecting some scattered essays which em body the evidence relating to debatable points.
