Publisher's Synopsis

An enjoyable afternoon spent at friend's home on the banks of the Amite River turns Verity's world into an adventure she wasn't quite ready for. She and Charlie had accepted the invitation to the get together full of anticipation and looking forward to spending some quality time with their friends. Fog rolled down the river like a silent blanket eerily obscuring the river bank and masking the water's surface. It was as if Mother Nature had decided to hide the wonders she had created from the prying eyes of the ladies sitting on the porch talking and watching the water flow. Perhaps their conversation had become too animated and Mother Nature was closing off her world of serenity until the voices quietened. The fog seemed to come and go, lift and settle as their voices raised and lowered. Verity didn't even think about it at the time, but on reflection, the timing of the raised voices were precisely at the same times the fog grew thicker and concealed the river in front of them. It was as if Mother Nature had posted her own private "Do Not Disturb" sign to accentuate her demands for the quiet and serenity she had presented for them that afternoon. Verity was sitting in the porch swing listening to the conversation going on around her but was more intent on watching the fog. Not totally tuning out the voices but not entirely listening to them either, she picked up her camera and snapped a few pictures so she could enjoy them when she got home. It was something she wanted to remember forever; the peace, tranquility and camaraderie of good friends and good food on a few days before Christmas. What she discovers in the pictures when they get back home sets her to investigating and trying to solve a mystery over a hundred and seventy-five years old.
