Publisher's Synopsis
This book deals with the enforcement of European Community law both from a European and a national perspective. The focus is on the use of the criminal law of the Member States as a tool for enforcing community law. - - On the one hand, various contributions to the book analyse the efforts made at a Community level to create increasingly specific obligations for Member States to enforce Community law and the resistance this tendency provokes among member-states, especially where the use of their criminal justice systems is concerned. On the other hand, other contributions look at the way Member States do in fact comply with their obligations to enforce Community law in specific areas. - - By contrasting the Community outlook with national practices and philosophies in the field of law enforcement and by drawing consequences from them this book provides a better insight into the legal and practical issues involved in enforcing Community law. It examines the case for a more integrated approach to enforcement in the coming years.
