Publisher's Synopsis
This volume gives the results of a comparative study on developments and skill requirements in 20 non-professional job fields in four European countries: Iceland, Italy, France, and Greece. The project, which received support from the European Community as part of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, is based on an earlier study in Iceland, designed by Gerdur G. Oskarsdottir, of 100 non-professional occupations. Three main questions are addressed in this study: first, whether there is an upskilling or a deskilling trend in non-professional occupations in these countries; second, whether general employability skills are demanded in all of the jobs; and finally, whether there are differences to be found among occupations and/or countries in these respects.
