Publisher's Synopsis

Emma is a comic novel by Jane Austen, first distributed in December 1815, about the hazards of misinterpreted sentiment. The primary character, Emma Woodhouse, is depicted in the initial passage as "attractive, shrewd, and rich" but at the same time is somewhat ruined. Preceding beginning the novel, Austen expressed, "I will take a courageous woman whom nobody however myself will similar as."
