Publisher's Synopsis

Most of the economic literature on migration views the decision to migrate as permanent. However, several studies have shown that more and more migrants either return to their home country after a period abroad or they migrate onward to a third country. The economic effects of migration depend on the length of the migrants' stay in the receiving country, and so it is important to obtain knowledge of the migration duration and also which parameters affect this duration. This report examines a duration model of migrants entering Denmark between 1986 and 2005. Based on data from Danish statistics during this period, the duration time for all immigrants aged 15 or more is derived.
